Anasuya - 8/10

Superb Thriller !!! If you keep Ravi Babu's earlier films in mind and expect the range of Anasuya then you are mistaken for sure. Anasuya is a brilliant film. Kudos to Ravi Babu. Itz a surprise package from him. Itz an edge of the seat thriller !!!

Whatz Itz All About ???

A very interesting story about a serial killer. The way he does murders, his mission and how the protagonist ANASUYA checks him is the story.

Highlights:

-- Story: Outstanding creative work. Ravi Babu has cleverly linked 3 to 4 contempory issues that we see in newspapers and has woven a brilliant story line. Itz not run of the mill kinda story. The key point in the story is very interesting. Itz a very fresh theme in Telugu films. Audience keep on guessing the reason behind the killings. All suspense thriller's first target is to maintain such interest in the viewers and the second target is to convincingly tell them the reason behind the mayhem. Here the writer succeeds in both the tasks. The main reason behind killing different persons, taking out human organs from them can't be predicted easily by an average movie goer. He gets thrilled on knowing the reason. It is very convincingly told and itz a great story idea. Thus the writer wins. Ravi Babu has to be highly commended for coming up with such an idea. Writer is the hero of the movie.

-- Screenplay: Paruchuri Brothers have been credited with Screenplay tag. They have been giving continuous flops these days. But this is for sure an exception. May be the story line gave them so much space to set in pace throught out the film. One would be thrilled continuously as the story has been laced with consistent interesting elements. It starts out by showing serial killings. First the police doubt that a psycho killer is targeting girls, then even a male gets killed, giving a big shock to the investigators. And suddenly through Bhoomika, they get hold of him but cleverly he manages to come out of custody. This time targets Bhoomika but owing to her shooting takes back his actions and this time too cleverly manages by marking the opinion that he is dead. Then comes interval and post Interval therez ample scope to unfold the reasons behind his killings, his next targets, how Bhoomika traces all these things, what happens to him at the end. All these interesting elements have given good scope for these veterans to view the movie from bio scope while listening to the story itself.

-- Titling: In the posters the titling of Anasuya is very good. It enhances interest in people. One would expect that itz a war of a journo on some large group in the society. But surprisingly itz not so. Still the posters have to be commended for drawing interest from people.

-- Interval card: The way interval card is shown is interesting. Itz shown on a car's nameplate. This surely brings out smile.

-- Humour quotient: Though this film is all about gruesome murders, Ravi Babu has taken ample care to bring in humour elements here and there and make it a nice watch. When the audience get fainted with the ongoings in the film, they get immediately relieved with a finer element. Itz a serious comedy compilation, something seldom found !!!

-- Dialogues: Some dialogues are very good. Nivas has shown his mark at some instances.
1) In the introduction scene of Abbas, all the dialogues related to SIX are interesting.
2) The way Sameer is used for comedy is good. Bhoomika, Sameer dialogues are also fine.
Sameer, a senior in NTV boasts a lot of himself and eyes female colleagues all the time.

a) When he says, "nenu Doordarshan puttakamundu puttaanu" then Bhoomika refers him as Uncle.

b) When he refers various leading female TV reporters in popular channels and boasts that they all worked under him, then Bhoomika says that they all could scale great heights but he remained at the same level.

These are simple dialogues yet help in moving the film without making the audiece getting bored.

3) When the psycho asks Nikhita about Rose:
Pyscho: "nee talaku puvvedi ?"
(to this Nikhita utters in tension)
Nikhita: "talanoppigaa unte teesesaanu"
Psycho: "avunaa yeppati nunchi ?"
Nikhita: "ippude start ayyindi"

This is a superb creation and is noteworthy.

-- In her interview for a reporter post in NTV, Bhoomika thrills the employer with her intelligence. In this scene, She points out a button and says that - "meeru third button pettukoledu kanuka meeru inkaa unmarried. meeke pellaiyunte mee aavida ilaa officeku pampedi kaadu". Though this might seem to be a bit unconvincing, but yet itz an interesting thought.

-- In the climax, Bhoomika amputates a finger of the villain. The way he looks at his broken finger and puts it in his pocket is hilarious. Audience get frightened with the scene initially but with the finishing touch they sigh a relief.

-- Ravi Babu has performed very well. His character has various dimensions and he excelled well. He tonsured his head, moustache, and even took out his eyebrows to bring in novelty. His conviction for the film can be easily observed. In the climax, one would get convinced with his actions too as he explains the reasons behind the gruesome killings so innocently.

Bhoomika is as ever good and fits well into her character. Therez nothing much that Abbas character could do. Sameer has got a good role which might act as a promotion to him to comedian from supporting artist. Harsha Vardhan in his short character has shown great acting skills. He is one artist with great ease, who is not yet exploited well in our industry.

-- There are some teasers in the movie which make the audience get distracted while guessing. This adds one more feather to the writer's cap.

-- The way "Maro Charitra" film song is played in Radio Mirchi, exactly at the time of murders is interesting. Bhoomika utilizing this point to trace Villain's place is good.

-- When the killer tries to torture Bhoomika by continuously calling her on a landline phone, Abbas tries to tap the phone next time and asks her to keep the killer online over the phone for 30 seconds. Then Bhoomika tackles the goon by saying that she is in Police officer's house...etc for 30 seconds and later when Abbas says that the killer is calling her from her own mobile phone citing that the killer is in the same house is an excellent idea.

-- When the killer attacks Bhoomika in the hospital, she tries to escape by getting into a lift. When he doesn't give up even then,  Bhoomika tries to attack him and in that tension injures a patient in the hospital. This idea to panic her further is executed well.

-- The way an innocent orphan girl's character is used to establish Bhoomika's character and using the same girl for the latter part in the story is a nice way of penning story.

-- The idea of using Concrete mixer to see to it that the police can't trace out the body details is an interesting one.

-- Another interesting point about the movie is that, it seems that there are some scenes in the movie that defy logic but surprisingly when we sit to think about them, we would wonder at our conclusions that what the writer did is correct. For example: The killer taking out heart, kidney...etc from his prey very quickly rises doubt in us but the logic to it is also apt though it is not explained in the movie.

-- Music by Sekhar Chandra is good. First song sounds good even at first hearing. Background score is very good. Remember, he is the music director for "GNAPAKAM" which has very good tunes like, " mounam manasuna mantalai marigi karigipotunnadi", "muvva gopala muddu kavala". He is one music director who has to be watched for in the future as he looks like a promising talent in Tollywood. The film makers should realize this.
