Kantri - 7/10

'Kantri' is a film with full Kanti powered by Kranti alias kaNTRi driven by Meher Ramesh.

What is it all about ?

'Pokiri'sh beginning, 'Munna'yish sentiment, interesting twists, all together a near perfect commercial entertainer.

Highlights:

-- NTR: Yes, he justifies the hero's role perfectly. It is his best screen presence so far, as far as the looks are concerned. With severe comments from  'Rakhi' looks, he comes out now with 'Rocking' looks. He unleashed his stylishness enormously. Right from his costumes, dialogue delivery...this make over may cover all his past glitches.

As highlighted, NTR fitted well into kaNTRi's character. It is a sincere, decent effort from him.

-- Meher Ramesh: It is an interesting debut for him in Telugu films. His hard work is obvious. He seems to be a promising director on the lines of his guru. The way he handled the story should be commended. He has hit the bull's eye.  He has handled all the four departments splendidly. He has excelled both in 'word play'(dialogues) and 'sword play'(action episodes).

-- The way film is 'woven' is interesting. The writer has played the role of 'Microwave Oven' in charging and changing the energy levels of the film.

-- Characterizations:

Meher Ramesh named and framed many characters interestingly.

NTR - Kranti, used it well in elevating hero's image as Kantri. NTR referring his life to a cinema and uttering dialogues is an interesting idea.

Hansika - Hamsa, referred by NTR at times.

Ali - Mr. Lee

Prakash Raj(PR) - Potu Raju (PR)

Sunil - Rajani Hassan

Kota - Daiva Sahayam

Shayaji Shinde and MS Narayana's characters are also good.

-- Meher Ramesh brought great difference in NTR's appearance as Puri did to Mahesh in Pokiri. Hansika's character is interesting. This gave good scope to the hero-heroine's love track.

-- Introduction scene is very good. The way NTR enters on a cycle and showing "HERO" label on it and all are very good.

-- Dialogues need a special mention. Meher Ramesh used many angles like word play, politics, NTR's image and did a perfect job as a dialogue writer...

Some of the interesting dialogues:

1) In the clash of two gangs:

Brahmaji: kadupu meeku delivery maaku....

2)

a) Krishna Bhagavan: Slim ayina Slum kurraadilaa vunnaav.

b) KB to Dharmavarapu Subramanyam: adi zoo, meeru lopalakelite jantuvulu kaasepu kaalakshepam chesukuntaay.

3) NTR: taggindi weight...head weight kaadu.

4) Quoting 143's equivalent term as 225 in Telugu.

5) NTR: nenu lekundaa gang vundagaliginappudu, gang lekundaa nenu vundagalanu

..etc

-- NTR once again proved his dancing prowess. He danced with elan. There is one more person who surprises us by shaking legs.Guess, Who ??? He is Praskash Raj. Yes he danced well in a party song with great ease beside NTR. Nice to see him dance after a long time.

Lowlights:

-- Story: The story is a mix masala of many telugu films like Pokiri, Munna. The only things that brought difference in it are nice twists.

-- Interval bang: Director brought in good conflicts between Prakash Raj and NTR. Firstly when NTR, says PR that he took money to kill him. Secondly when it is unfolded that PR and NTR are father and son. Director used the second one as the interval bang. Though it looks good, it made the second half drag enormously. Director's confusion can be easily observed in the second half. He struggled a lot to withhold the interesting twist in the climax. This made NTR's character look odd till climax. Though it is an interesting twist yet it is hard to digest such behavior of protagonist for a very long time. He would have given a better gripping second half, had he took the first conflict as Interval bang.

-- Hansika's characterization is odd in the second half. She never complains NTR of his doings, the risk factor in his life...etc All she knows is to love him.

-- There are some scenes which defy logic. Eg: When NTR asks Asish Vidyarthi, a sum of 10 Lakhs, he denies giving him and this makes NTR start his own gang. At this point of time if NTR would have called PR, he would have got the money or else a much clear reason for separation. Though his mission is different and is justified in the climax, they should have covered this aspect too.

-- Music: Mani Sharma should have given better tunes. With sloppy tunes itself  NTR, director, choreographers could create great visuals. Mani has tried too much with the instruments but the basic tunes are not that impressive. People will find it difficult to catch the tunes. Better music would have helped the film in enhancing the range of the film.

-- Meher Ramesh has spark in him. But he has the problem of parking the sparkles at right places. He struggled in giving proper timing to the comedy scenes. Many a time he started off the scenes well and ended them abruptly. But he could luckily escape from all these as he could bring in some freshness in his work. He needs some grooming.

-- NTR attempting slow dialogue delivery in all sort of scenes back fired at times. It looked odd. He should check it out.

-- Brahmi's comedy scene is mediocre except the 'Spider Reddy' cameo.

Final Touch:

It is the most stylish film of NTR till date. Addition of 5 to 6 kilos would make him look perfect. He seems to be underweight now.

Meher Ramesh and NTR have Kantri-buted a lot to Kantri. Their dedication can be observed as they absorbed the audience well into the film with their hard work. A better second half would have made every one loose the second thought in accepting it as the blockbuster. It is a mast movie for mass and khaas(special) movie for class.

Thums Up to Vyjanyanthi's banner. There are on winning spree now.

'Re'-'view'ing is the case with many.

Youngsters can-try(can be read as Kantri), kaNTRi's costumes
