Story:
Subbarayudu (Allu Ramalingayya) and Ramabadrayya (Ravi kondala Rao) are childhood friends. As the time passes, Subbarayudu turns out to be rich person and he forgets Rambadrayya. Subbarayudu’a son Sivaram (Subhaleka Sudhakar) falls in love with Susheela (Tulasi), Rambhadrayya’s daughter. Subbarayudu insults Rambadrayya saying that he wants his son to get married to a minister's daughter and not to a layman’s daughter. How Rambadrayya's son Babji (Chiranjeevi) teaches a lesson to Subbarayudu forms the rest of the movie.
About the film:
Mantrigaari Viyyankudu is 63rd movie in Chiranjeevi’s career. After Manavoori Pandavulu, Bapu teamed up with Chiru second time for this flick. The film also is the second movie of Maestro Ilayaraja and Chiru’s great combination first being Abilasha. For actress Poornima Jayaram, who was rage in Tamil and Malayalam at that time, it was her first and only Telugu film. Chiranjeevi's father Venkat Rao did a small role as minister in the film.
Mantrigaari Viyyakundu became a hot topic when it released primarily for Lok Singh’s visuals. Songs like ‘dosti okate asti raa..’ and ‘emani ne padedane’ shot in Ooty were trendsetters in capturing the nature in most imaginative style.
Songs remained till date as one of the best songs in both Chiru and maestro’s career. Remember Ram Gopal Varma recently used the ‘Emani Ne Padadeno’ for his Shiva 2008.
About the heroine Poornima Jayaram:
Malayalee Poornima Jayaram shot to fame with super hit film Manjil Virinja Pookkal (1980) directed by Fazil. That was the first film for Mohan Lal as villain after the movie released she became a rage in South India and she began accepting all the big movies in Tamil and Malayalam. Soon she met director Bhagyaraja and while working with for Darling Darling Darling (Tamil), she fell in love with him. The movie was later dubbed into Telugu also. By then Bhagyaraja was already married to Praveena who was an actress even before he became director and she helped him while he is struggling to get a break in films. After Praveena passed away due to illness, he married Poornima with a condition that she would not act in films anymore. Bhagyaraja - Poornima's daughter Sharanya is now also an actress.
