The film was based on the short novel written by Jandhyala for the Swathi monthly. The film was made with about 12 lakh rupees but turned out to be a phenomenal hit collecting nearly Rs 90 lakhs and ran over 100 days in 18-20 centers and 175 days in 3 centers.
