Initially the Cameraman M.A.Rehman rejected B.Saroja Devi. He felt the dusky actress will not suite against the fair and handsome N.T.Rama Rao. But N.T.Rama Rao convinced him to take her for the role of Kalavathi. After this film she became the glamorous heroine in both Telugu and Kannada. T.G.Kamala Devi dubbed her voice.

I dont know if this film and its magic can be recreated in modern times. Hope NBK and KRR do their best to churn out a very good modern Panduranga Mahatyam

NTR is a grat actor and he proved his talent in this movie. Songs are simply melodious.Kudos to Ghantasala. It would have been better if this movie were remade with Nag who has that intensity (of course not same as NTR). But with Bala Krishna, i doubt as he is out and out mass hero. Rely more on punch lines but not on histrionic talent. He lacks certain finer points which will draw family crowds to theaters.
Any way best of luck Bala Krishna. Try hard. This is the best opportunity to act and earn real name.

NTR's great acting talent cannot be matched by ANY of the present heroes, young or experienced. For that matter, none of the present generation of technicians, directors, music directors or singers can even dream of matching the work of the past legends.

One of the greatest movies with unparalleled songs and acting. The last half-an-hour is scintillating. Don't even dare to expect such classics in this generation.....Just watch this movie again and again... and again, no re-makes please.
