What's it about!
Jagan (Vishal) is a carefree young guy. He runs into a fracas with a local politician and his men register case against him. The court grants him bail on the condition he comes police station daily. On his visit to station, he meets a pretty student Malathi (Priyamani) and falls in love. When he approaches her, she claims a goon is her lover. And the goon takes it as seriously and starts harassing hero. The rest of the story is how Jagan fights with this rowdy and wins the love of Malathi.
Analysis
Vishal has got an image of action hero with successful films - Pandem Kodi and Pogaru. Action is his forte. So, in Bhayya too, he offers it plenty. The film is his show all the way. He flexes the muscles and does acts that mass audiences easily like and also for the first time he does comedy. Bhayya is regular commercial potboiler but has packaged in racy manner by the director. Unlike his past films, Bhayya has more entertainment and glamour quotient (thanks to Priyamani).
It is a formula film but works due to Vishal's presence. There is not much story. The Tamil director Bhoopathy Pandian focused on commercial elements and tried to elevate Vishal's strengths - action sequences. The first half is neat. The second half loses focuses and hinges more on action episodes.
Performances:
Vishal is good in his role as angry young man. Though this is the first time, he has tried his best to deliver the goods in comedy department too. Vishal's presence is the major plus point. The name Jagan and the town Pulivendula give us the impression that it is named after YS's son.
Priyamani does very glam role in the movie compared to her 'homely' characters in other movies. Telugu villain
Ajay is good in villainous role. Ashish Vidyardhi and Urvashi provide some laughter.
Technically, camera work by Vaithi catches the attention. Manisharma's music is passable. Tamil director Bhoopathi Pandian's work is okay.
Bottom-line
Bhayya is regular mass entertainer packaged in a racy way. Vishal's presence and his action sequences are major attraction. Though there is not much novelty, it is told in a way that easily attracts the mass audiences. But Vishal should do films that attract larger audiences like his Pandem Kodi as he has good following in women audiences too.
