What’s it about!

Varun (Varun Sandesh) is happy go-lucky middle class youngster. He is unemployed but he is passionate about bikes and dreams of owning a bike on his own. His father (Tanikella) constantly scolds him for his waywardly acts. One day, after a verbal confrontation between with his father, he gets Rs 70,000 from their parents and buys a bike. Soon after he gets a job, also he gets nod from his girlfriend Hema (Neha Sharma). As everything is going smooth, suddenly he runs into fight with dreaded don Satya’s (Ravi Shankar) brother and soon after his bike his stolen by this gang. Then his entire life is changed and his family is in danger.

Analysis

Kurradu is remake of Tamil film, Polladavan, which itself is copied from two films - Vittorio De Sica’s The Bicycle Thief (1948) and Beijing Bicycle (2001). The film’s storyline and narration has some really interesting moments but the pace of the film lacks consistency. It could have been better if the film is told in racy manner. Comedy, couple of good songs and good chemistry between the lead pair are the film’s strength. But many viewers may find repetitive as a similar film titled Ride released few months ago.

Kurradu has no novelty except that Varun Sandesh does action stunts for the first time. And he also takes up sword on his hands. Is he looking for ‘mass image’? Second half is filled with too much gore and bloodshed.

Performances

Varun Sandesh looks good but he should stick to romantic roles than doing fights. He is best in comedy and romance and his chemistry with beautiful Neha Sharma is perfect. They look good on screen. He also needs to build up some physique. Unlike in Chirutha, Neha Sharma is completely seen in homely looks and she is gorgeous. But she needs to improve her acting skills. Tanikella and Pragati as parents are impressive. Venu’s comedy evokes laughter but Ali and M.S Narayana doesn’t bring any cheers.

Dubbing artiste Ravi Shankar in the role of don is perfect. Music by Achchu is nice but only two numbers are hummable and senior music director Koti has provided background score. Cinematography by Sarvesh Murari is adequate. New director Sandeep Gunnam has narrated the film in voice over mode and used present-to-past screenplay device, which are nice. He has shown his talent in some scenes but he is down by the lack of consistency in the film.

Bottom-line

On the whole, with all its ups and downs, Kurradu is worth a look for once.
