Mani lost his magic. Iruvar, Dil Se, Yuva and Guru, all are good concepts but the story presentation is missing innovation. Dubbing versionsey kaadu, originals kooda alage chachayi.

there is no magic in maniratnam. he is hype and overdo copy master of kurosawa and other foreign films. you watch any of his films the climax is senseless. he thinks he can climax like shyam benegal but it is not possible

You have hit the bulls eye with your review. Though i have not seen the movie I can understand how the movie is. I dont understand why Maniratnam leaves out casting telugu Heroes. There are really some great actors in our Tollywood far better than mallu and tamil actors. Henceforth tollywood should ban releasing movies of Tamil productions in case if they dont cast telugu heroes. There is a limit for tolerance.

In the climax when the villagers chase Nasiruddin Shah we expect that Shabana Ajmi return to her husband but she also elopes with Nasiruddin.

I think, we should feel proud of Mani.He never forgets the Telugu audience. He is making available all his great works in telugu version as well.

Today's Telugu is pretty atrocious..especially the women's dubbing.

Here is some info that I read in the news from time to time and makes u know that u misunderstood him about not casting a telugu actor.

Not sure how true it is

1.Roja is initially planned with Venkatesh and Madhu in all the languages.Venky did not do the film.

2.Gharshana is planned with Venkatesh and Nagarjuna in telugu.Shooting also happened for a month but stopped as nagarjuna did not want to do the film.

3.Mahesh was the initial choice for Sidharth's role in Yuva in all the languages.Mahesh did not show interest.

4.Chiranjeevi was the choice for Mammutti role in Dalapati.Chiranjeevi rejected it saying it does not suit his larger than life image.

Inspite of all this nagarjuna has the only record of acting in mani's direction.

i agreee with you there has to be an limit. even in the promo of the telugu version a journo has raised about non casting of telugu actors. but their questions were snubbed by "SUHASINI". Well whats happening here in TFI. suhasini is a kind of actor who does not even bother to fill in any ext. small roles in telugu films and she is subing our movies wen ever we get a chance....

Manirathnam can make good and classical art movies he can win awards but can never make movies that can satisfy common audience. his movies are leaving the distributors in despair. he thinks telugu actors are not fit enough to act in his films and constantly snubing them. If you see his previous films. he has casted telugu actors in a rather flithy roles... and more less and less prominent mallu and tamil actors with little acting exp. are given lead and prominent roles. this is shame and insult of the highest degree to TFI. Out top heros instead of boasting their family history should come up and act aginst releasing these kind of rubbish dubbing films on us..

maniratnam once again fail to impress the audience. staring, technicalities canot save any film. in ravan(vilan)missed mani style of music, romance etc.

none of mani's hindi films are hits. before this film going to hit the theatres, every body expected this result. it is what everybody would have predicted. also we need not think much about this idli sambar guy who never made a film telugu actor. becos of this fellow's over confidence his brother GV lost his life by hanging himself, after suffering huge losses with mani's different ideas.

he better try his fate with kamal hassan with a kind of movie that he made earlier.

I am not sure, to call these stunning visuals, as poetry because there is not a moment when those visuals move me.. its more of an extravaganza.. and the benefits of being in such a location.
why water is a motif? its just because santosh sivan is there, cranking his camera in the forest. moreover the camera work is obtrusive in many scenes, distorting the emotions and giving this 360 degree circus'ing..i guess mani had left his script at madra talkies, when he was shoting the film. This is mere merchandising than filmmaking.
