Bharat Chowdhary (Line Producer) Jagapathi Babu, Vimala Raman, RGV, Tanikella at Gaayam 2 Press Meet

Gaayam is one of the modern classics in Telugu cinema. Released in 1993, the classic was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and screenplay penned by Manirathnam and had Jagapathi Babu, Revathy and Urmila in the lead roles. Nearly two decades later, a sequel is made to this titled Gaayam 2 with the same lead hero - Jagapathi Babu. But this sequel is not being directed by RGV but his disciple Praveen Sri. Ram Gopal Varma presents the movie while new producer Dr.Dharmakartha C is producing it on Kartha Creations banner. Vimala Raman is the heroine. Bharat Chowdhary is the Line Producer for the film.

As the film’s shooting has already been completed the film’s official logo and promos were unveiled in the presence of RGV today (August 11, 2010) at The Park Hotel in Hyderabad. Ilayraja is composing music is main highlight, the original had superb songs by Sri.

RGV said: “When Jagapthy Babu asked me to do a sequel to Gaayam, I thought that it would be hard to reach the public with such an old subject, with its original dating back to 1993. When Praveen brought the script and showed it to me, it was a thrill. The audience would definitely see the fresh feeling in this sequel as though they were watching the first one. Gayam-II is releasing in September. My film Raktha Charitra would also release three weeks later. Please, mark that both films have nothing to do with each other.”

Jagapathy Babu said: “My actual birth was with Gaayam. The same roles of that film would continue in this film also. We are also holding a puzzle for the audience. My fans were also pestering me very much to do Gayam 2. Praveen could direct this sequel with the prowess that would match with Ramu (RGV). Music by maestro Ilayaraja is a big asset to this flick. Vimala Raman would bring the much required romance for the film. I hope this film would be the best in my career.”

Tannikella Bharani said: “Kota Prasad, who passed away recently (in a road mishap) did the role of main villain."
