For NRI Telugus, 1987 marked the first Telugu movie that was made almost entirely in the USA Padamati Sandhya Ragam. Traditional number pibarE raamarasam... has been recorded in the annals of Telugu Cinema history as the first Telugu film song ever recorded in the USA. Twenty years have passed since, and the producer duo that gave us such a classic now comes together again to make a sequel to the much-appreciated Padamati Sandhya Ragam. The duo Meer Abdulla and Gummuluru Sastry, who gave Padamati Sandhya Ragam, now are coming out with its sequel titled: Maro Sandhya Ragam.
Is there anything special and trendsetting about this movie too? Yes, and thats the theme of this story. Maro Sandhya Ragam, has recorded its first song last week! As they did with their previous film Padamati Sandhya Ragam, they recorded the first song of the sequel also in the USA. This time, they went a step ahead to set yet another trend by recording the
First All-NRI Telugu Film Song. Yes, the song was tuned, written, sung, and was played music by NRI artists living in the USA. February 17, 2007 thus remains in the history of Telugu Cinema as the date on which this never-before feat was done with confidence and satisfaction of being the first of a kind. (Incidentally, like pibarE raamarasam... this song is also on Lord Rama, and starts off as mOhana raamaa!)
The chosen music director for the movie is Nandi award-winner Madhavapeddi Suresh; but the film makers explain that they took his consent to create this song entirely in the USA with the intention of encouraging artistic and passionate NRIs living in USA.
This song is composed by Padmaja Sonti, written by Chakravarthula, and is sung by Padmaja Sonti with Mervin Michael. Dr. Anand Chellappa on keyboard, Raghavendra Bhatni on veena, Daniel Prabhakar on tabla, Raman on flute, Rajna Swaminathan on mridangam, Anjna Swaminathan on violin, and Dhananjaya Kumar for sound effects were the accompaniments for the song. Lakshmi Bangaru, who is expected to choreograph the song for the movie, coordinated the recording of the song at Avalon Studios in Washington, D.C. For all these artists, this song marks their Telugu Cinema debut in some way or the other!
Gummuluru Sastry reveals that this song would be shot partly in the USA and partly in India.
Recording of the song kicks off the sequel of the classic, Meer Abdulla said. A happy man he is now, having recorded the first song with all local NRI artistic talent of the United States. This could prove that theres a lot of talent not just outside the film industry but even outside the country! All these people who worked for the song have other day jobs as this is not a real profession for them. Yet, theres so much of quality in the song, and the song came out so well that I am confident itd be a hit with the audience when we release the audio later this year, he adds.
