It is a tragic day for Tollywood. Shoban Babu, the greatest ever-romantic hero Tollywood has seen, passed away on Friday morning (March 20, 2008). He fell from the staircase at his residence in Chennai. The actor breathed his last on the way to hospital. He suffered a fatal spinal injury in the fall. He is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters.
Born as Uppu Sobhana Chalapathi Rao on January 14, 1937 in a middle-class family, Sobhan Babu went on to become romantic icon, the soggadu for generation of Andhra Ladies, and remained as top hero for two decades. After the generation of legendary NTR and ANR, along with Krishna he earned great image and star status.
He received 5 Nandi Awards and four Filmfare Awards. Tollywood mourns for his sudden demise.
