Veteran music director Susarla Dakshinamurthy passed away at
his residence in Chennai on Thursday (Feb 09, 2012). Susarla (91) is survived
by a son. He composed hits songs like "Challani Raja O Chandamama" (Ilavelupu,
1956), "Nidurapo Nidurapora Tammuda" (Santhanam, 1955), “Navara Kuravara” & "Janani Shivakamini" (Narthanasala, 1963), etc.
He introduced Lata
Mangeshkar's voice to Telugu audiences as she sang under his music direction
for the film
Santhanam and the song was "Nidurapo Nidurapora Tammuda".
Born on November 11 in 1921 in Pedakallepalli in Krishna District, Susarla
started his career as an assistant to music director C R Subbaraman and later
became independent music director in 1946.
Samsaram was his first major film as
music director and then he went on to provide hit numbers in films like Shri
Lakshmamma Katha (1950), Sarvadhikari (1951), Santanam (1955), Ilavelpu (1956),
Annapurna (1959), etc.
His big musical hit was NTR's
Narthanasala (1963) and his
last film as music director was again NTR's
Shrimad Virat Veerabrahmendra Swami
Charitra (1984). He also produced two films.
