Pemmaraju's independent feature film Love Lies and Seeta, which is
completely shot in New York is in the final stages of Post Production,
and Telugu Cinema.com brings you an exclusive interview with the
filmmaker.
Whats Love Lies and Seeta about?
Its
about a girl, 3 guys, their friends and their summer in New York. The
movie is a urban romantic comedy, for the hipster generation.
Whats the Story of the Film and why Love Lies and Seeta?
Well, the movie
in
itself you can call it a romantic comedy built around three distinctly
different guys all of whom pine for the same beautiful girl and how
their friends play an important role in all this. the city NewYork where
they all live in forms an interesting background character in the film.
The movie is young, has young upcoming artistes as well as established
artistes from american television and independent film circuit, has a
production value on par with any big budget film, and gives you a feel
of summer in new york. The title Love Lies and Seeta, when there are
3guys who love the same girl, there are bound to be lies and the girl is
Seeta, however I do not want to pigeon hole it as a film that deals
just with that. It deals with more than 3 guys and one girl, the movie
follows the journey of these youngsters, their friends in New York
Summer - its how New York as you see today - the city is a melting pot
of cultures, and our film tries to give a taste of that in the form of a
romantic comedy that is aimed at entertaining the audience who watches
the film.
Your films May Beetle / Kissing Miss Jones have played in various festivals What are other projects you worked on?
May
Beetle / Kissing Miss Jones are two different films, one deals with
subject of terrorism, where are other is a Woody Allen' sort of
comedy/tragedy about a young immigrant who tries to make it in the rat
race but loses his wife because of that. Both films got nominated in
festivals and the reception from audience was something that prompted to
me to take on a bigger film. Among others, I worked closely with Rohit
Gupta, another film maker who made Life Camera Action, which has won
many festivals, and awards, screened in more than 30 festivals so far
since its completion 8months ago. That is another movie which is
practically made with no budget and the film is now close to getting
distribution as well.
If in few words you have to describe your movies what would it be?
I
grew up watching movies, there were days when I used to go to a matinee
and then go watch a second show in another theater - i was good in
studies, so my movie craziness was never a problem as long as I was
getting good grades. More than watching a film, its the style / vision
of the directors is what influenced me. It doesn't matter as long as
what language the film is in, how much budget it is shot at, how many
known actors are there in the film, if the film has its heart in its
right place its sure to touch a chord with audience who love movies. I
would like to continue making films that would give the audience that
the movie is a genuine attempt and has some thing innovative and
freshness to it.
