He gave phenomenal hits to Mohan Babu, Venkatesh, Chiranjeevi. The Raja of remakes (Chanti, Pedarayaudu, and more) goes down the memory lane..

When comes to remakes he is very good... no doubt in it. Be it Chanti or
Pedarayudu or Hindi Version of Ankusam (Prathiband)
Among his straight movies, I like Muthyamantha Muddu, Jwala, Bangaru
Buloodu a lot. All are musical hits.
Sad to see that his last few movies did not work at all.
Anyway nice interview Sri.

I thank Sri for another very interesting interview. Sri's interviews are
very different, his questions are bold and he always manages to get
some very interesting and candid answers from his subjects.
Raviraja is truly a remake Raja. I had seen the Tamil original of
Balaramakrishnulu named Cheran Pandian
and I can say very confidently that the remake was much better than the
original. The same may be true for some of his other remakes also, though
I did not watch any.
Coming to this interview, it is hard to believe that Dasari asked a
reluctant Raviraja forced him to join as an assistant, at a time he used
to
100s of applicants. May be Raviraja is bragging, which is very typical to
many directors.
Also, his ego is very apparent when he said that he stopped working with
some stars on his own after giving flops.
Also, his claim that his first movie was released at the time of elections
may not be correct. The movie as per this article came in 1984,
but NTR came into power in early 1983.
However, he was honest in accepting his flops. It is rather shocking to
learn that even in his peak, a director could be forced to compromise
on story, casting etc. It is also rather sad to see how producers label a
heroin as unlucky when I read about Bhanupriya in Pedarayudu.
She had done many hits in 80s but had practically no releases in Telugu
between 1990 and 95 when Pedarayudu was made. Still,
Mohan Babu considered her unlucky! And this movie was a big block buster
finally.
A final question:
Sri, do you know if his Bangaru Bullodu is a remake too? The story for that
movie was credited to Padma Kumar who was a Malayalam director.

Good interview, interesting insights, but some corrections.
* Kane and Abel, was written by Jeffrey Archer, not Eric Segal.
* Nyayam Kosam was also a remake of a Mallu movie, Oru CBI Diary starring
Mamooty, but well made nevertheless.
* Nammina Bantu was a remake of the Hindi movie Teri Meherbaniyan, not sure
if there was a Kannada version. I think after this flop, Murali Mohan
stopped doing hero roles, and concentrated more on character roles.
* Even Rayudu, Alludugarocharu were remake of Tamil movies. The Tam
original of Rayudu had Satyaraj, while the Tam original of Alludugarocharu
starred Karthik and Kaushalya i think.
* Maa Annayya too was another remake of Tam movie Vanathipole, starring
Vijaykanth.
I think he did a good job in adapting novels to the screen, Yamapasam and
Mutyamanta Muddu being best example.

Hi,
Very interesting article. It is true that truth comes out when u
interview people who already left the field.
It is very interesting to know v. B. Rajendra Prasad has hearing
problem on phone. I talked to him several times in film nagar temple, when
I visited India, but I never noticed that.
A very commendable effort.

He is to return to the Industry why because he is a super director after
seaing Jwala,punys sthree,Prathibandh,chandti,aajka goondaraj,chakravarthy
and pedarayudu, he is a class and super action director. really we are
missing wonderful director to watch.

I am sorry Raviraja is not the king of remakes. Dasari gets the title 90%
of his movies are remakes from Tamil films or Hindi films. Name the film
and I will give you the orginal movie title.
