Chitchat with Sindhu Tholani

Sindhu Tholani is one of those heroines who's doing heroine-oriented movies or at
least movies that have prominent female lead role. Films like Bathukamma and Black & White got her good name. I first did her
interview  at the time of Athanokkade and Gautham SSC. Later, she changed her mobile number and was thus not reachable. With the help of Srikanth Vemulapalli who directed her recent  film Black & White, I could get back into contact with her when she came to Seattle (Washington, USA). Out of our chit-chat came another interview, presented exclusively for TeluguCinema.Com visitors:

Sri: Congratulations on the success of Black & White and Bathukamma!

Sindhu Tholani:
Thanks, I am really enjoying having worked for both the films. It was really exciting to see success after doing real hard work!

Sri: What brings you to Seattle?

Sindhu Tholani:
(Laughs) Just taking a break! ...I was working non-stop from January and I just needed to take some time off...

Sri: What motivated you to work for films like Bathukamma and Black & White? Were you not concerned about the risk involved in doing such off-beat films?!

Sindhu Tholani:
Life is always risky! Bathukamma had a wonderful script and so did the more recent Black & White. Both films had enough importance to the heroine and also gave scope to perform.

Sri: How was your experience for either film like?

Sindhu Tholani:
Working for Bathukamma was different from working for Black & White, surely! Bathukamma was shot mostly in rural areas of Warangal and surroundings. People there were really helpful and the team was excellent too! All the thirty days of shoot passed like a holiday for me. Black & White, on the other hand, is entirely different. ...The director Srikanth was very helpful - he used to sit with us to explain each shot, including the lead scene and the following scene, so that we'd know what exactly we're doing. Though this is his debut film, it never seemed so on the sets or in the execution of the script! He was really helpful and is a good technician.

Sri: How was working with the Bollywood hot star of a time, Jackie Shroff?

Sindhu Tholani:
I never even dreamed of working with him! As a kid, I watched his shooting for the film Parinda, which was shot near our house. Now, sitting next to him on the sets gave me goose bumps with excitement. He is really down to earth and is very casual - he never showed he's a big man! Working with him is like a dream come true for me...

Sri: What about Rajeev Kanakala? You acted in a couple of films with him, and I hear you are acting as a pair in another film too.

Sindhu Tholani:
Rajeev sir is too good! He is a really versatile artiste and works hard for all his films...

Sri: How come he is still "sir"? I thought you are doing another film with him and have the intimacy to call him by name.

Sindhu Tholani:
He is my senior and I have high respect for him. And, yes I am doing another film with him. This film is like my home production. I am doing it for my manager who is looking after my dates from the beginning of my career .

Sri: You are doing films like Pothe Poni, Bathukamma, Black & White, etc., where you are center of the story. At the same time you are doing secondary roles in films like Hare Ram and Victory. Don't you think you should choose better if you should be in the race?

Sindhu Tholani:
Firstly, I am never in the race - I do the films at my own pace. I like to enjoy the work I do. I do the films seeing the story and my importance in the film. I did Hare Ram because it is from NTR Arts, which was like my home banner since I did their first film Athanokkade. It was a huge hit and Kalyan is a good friend too, and that was why I did Hare Ram. Victory is by the director Ravi Chavali (a.k.a. Ravi C Kumar) who gave a good hit Samanyudu earlier - this one was also a society-based film, I felt, and thus did that.

Sri: What are your future films?

Sindhu Tholani:
I am doing a film in Tamil which is directed by S.A. Chandrasekhar (Hero Vijay's father and director of Telugu films like Devanthakudu in the past) and one in Telugu now.
