When Aithe...! was released, there were suddenly all new faces, which made audiences sit and watch. Out of them all, two people who made a mark themselves were Sashank and Sindhu Tolani. Though Sashank signed films like Sye, and Anukokunda Oka Roju, Sindhu was not seen in Telugu films for sometime. Then she returned to Telugu with a bumper hit film Atanokkade. At present, two more of her films are getting ready for release, Gowtham SSC and Pothe Poni. Here is a brief interview exclusive to TeluguCinema.Com readers:
Sri: Hi, Sindhu! It's nice to see you back with a hit film...
Sindhu: Hi, Sri! I never left Telugu films. So there is nothing like I am "back" to Telugu films.
Sri: But after successful Aithe...!, there was a considerable gap until you did Atanokkade...
Sindhu: That's because I was doing Tamil and Kannada films during that time, and was also completing my graduation at the same time.
Sri: You did your B.A, right?
Sindhu: Yes, I completed B.A (Sociology).
Sri: You said you were busy in Tamil and Kannada before Atanokkade...
Sindhu: Yes, I was doing Manmadhan with Simbu (dubbed in Telugu as Manmadha) and Sullan with Dhanush. Manmadhan did extremely well in both languages. Then I did Kannada film Rishi.
Sri: I heard that you lost a film as you have done Manmadhan!
Sindhu: That's a baseless rumor! I was never replaced; I was always busy.
Sri: Can you tell us something about your family background?
Sindhu: As you know, I am from Mumbai. I was born and brought up in Mumbai. My father is a bank officer, and my mother works in Indian Railways. I have a younger sister...
Sri: I heard that your sister has done a film too. Actually, the rumor is that she did a role of yours, as you were busy with another film.
Sindhu: She did a song in one Tamil film, but that's not like what you said...
Sri: How did the long journey from Mumbai to Hyderabad happen?
Sindhu: I wanted to act in films since childhood. When I was in college, I tried and got a chance to act in the TV. Seeing the TV episodes, Chandu sir gave me a chance in Aithe...!
Sri: But you don't know the language...
Sindhu: True, but they know Hindi and English (giggles). Jokes aside, Chandu sir used to explain every bit before I face the camera. Yes, it is difficult to mouth the dialogues when I don't know the language. But, with the help of Chandu sir and others, I did the film successfully.
Sri: Which do you like the most, Mumbai or Hyderabad?
Sindhu: Being my hometown, I definitely like Mumbai, but I also like Hyderabad as I liked the people here. So, I guess I like both these cities (giggles).

Sri: How was it like to work with Kalyan Ram?
Sindhu: Kalyan sir is very dedicated and hard working, and at the same time he is also very helpful. He used to help me with the lines. He used to explain me the meaning of the words in the dialogues and then used to explain the situation very well. I learned a lot from him. He does not have any hang-ups.
Sri: Tell me about the film Pothe Poni. How was working with Siva Balaji like?
Sindhu: That's a wonderful film! I did the role of Shanti. It gave me complete satisfaction. The film is close to my heart. It has the feel. It is a rare opportunity to get the role like that. I am really thankful to Thammareddy sir for choosing me for the role. Working with Thammareddy sir is a great thing. He has good name in the whole of India. I feel very happy and proud to have done Pothe Poni. Siva Balaji has good timing and works on the role well. He's pretty hard working, and he's also helpful in nature. We had a good time competing with each other in the film.
Sri: What about Navdeep?
Sindhu: Navdeep is amazing in dances. He knows the camera angles very well – where to see, how to do, etc. Working with him is fun. There is never a dull movement on the sets when he's around. At the same time, he is very dedicated towards acting. ...He is a very good guy.
Sri: How is working with the super hit banner Sumanth Arts ...and with Prabhas, one of the tallest heroes in Telugu?
Sindhu: Prabhas is full of energy. Yeah, he is a tall hero (giggles) but also a wonderful artist. Prabhudeva sir is an amazing director. He makes each scene so poetic. You need to watch the film on the big screen to know how fantastic it is, believe me!
Sri: Usually, these days, most of the heroines in Telugu are only glamour dolls. But, luckily you got good roles in Aithe...!, Atanokkade, and Pothe Poni. I heard you have enough footage even in Gowtham SSC. At this juncture, why did you choose a multi-heroine film like saradaa saradaagaa...?
Sindhu: See, in saradaa saradaagaa..., important characters are and Sreekanth sir's and mine. We have major footage. So it's a good role to me. Apart from that, working with S.V.K is a great experience. I was looking forward to working with him for quite sometime now. So, when they offered me the role, I readily agreed.
Sri: Mumbai heroines generally want big banners and big heroes to give a break, but you choose a small film like Aithe...! as your debut film. Why is that?
Sindhu: When I was approached for Aithe...!, I was a no one. Getting a break is a big thing in itself! Also, when I heard the story, I felt it is a different kind of story and that one cannot get a chance like that everyday, and I thus accepted. For Atanokkade, the name NTR banner itself is enough. NTR gaaru is a legend. Working in that banner is surely a privilege, and same goes with Bharadwaja sir too. He has a big name in the industry and I am the central character in the film Pothe Poni. Sumanth Arts is a big banner too, and Visu sir also has a big name. Working with S.V.K sir is a privilege too – he gave several big hits. So, I am happy with all the films I am working for. I do not have any problems that these are not big, etc.
Sri: By the way, who are your favorite actors and actresses?
Sindhu: Amir Khan and Kajol in Bollywood, and Jim Carrey and Julie Roberts in Hollywood.
Sri: What about Telugu?
Sindhu: All the heroes I am working with are my favorite (giggles). ...I have not seen many Telugu films, and so I do not know much about them. I will definitely see Telugu films in future, but at present I'm spending whatever free time I get with my family in Mumbai.
TeluguCinema.Com wishes all the best to Sindhu Tolani who is going places with good roles.
