I can never for the world figure out why Sobhan Babu garu's role was given a terrible deal in Mahasangramam. After the release and the consequent box-office disaster, he openly said that he trusted the team to maintain the balance of characters in the movie but realised during the making itself that it had gone haywire. He was so upset that he never acted in multi-starrers after that.

Balachander, it looks like Mahasangramam wasn't a disaster as you mentioned. The producer said that it wasn't a huge hit.

But due to the huge cost, it was a break-even with huge openings mainly because of SSK's presence as usual as SS Krishna was at his peak in 1984 ...
