He got noticed with his very first film, Kalidasu. Although he comes from illustrious Akkineni family, Sushanth is trying to find his foothold on his own. As his first film was focused more on mass-commercial aspects, he now tries to woo the youth audiences with his Current. The movie releases on June 19th. Here he talks about the film, his career in general .. Excerpts from chitchat..
What Current says about..
Current is a youthful entertainer with high dose of romance, entertainment, peppy songs and youthfulness. It is packaged in such way that every category of audiences feels satisfied. Highlight point is the novel angle that we presented in this romantic drama. Love stories are very common but how we narrate differently makes the difference. Current is unique in that way.
When you say
Current, is it ‘electricity’ or ‘Chemistry’?
Definitely, we are taking about the chemistry between a boy and a girl.
What is your character in the film?
I play an aeronautical engineering student named Sushanth. Sneha Ullal’s character is also called Sneha. Mine is bubbly, cheerful character that doesn’t think about future. He always talks about ‘current’ period, not future. Sneha’s is quite contrast to me – very responsible, matured and knows what she wants. She has strong mentality in the film. Can love happen between these two bipolar guys? That is crux of the story but a very unique and novel angle is inserted in it.
You look stylish compared to Kalidasu. Who designed costumes for you?
My mother Naga Susheela is my personal costume designer. Even in real life she picks up all my clothes. She has good sense of fashion and latest trends.
It is heard that you insisted on taking Devi Sri Prasad as the music director!
Yes, I am big fan of his music even before I entered into acting. He gives peppy and trendy music. Especially for love stories like these, he is best. So I insisted on him and although the film delayed as he takes time to give best music, we know that he delivers goods. Today, the music is a big hit. I am happy that my film has got good pre-publicity with hit songs.
Which is your favorite song..
Title song is my personal fav but I like all of them.
This is my second film but for the first time that I am doing very romantic and intimate
It looks like you are going for ‘romantic star’ image..
No, not like that but it was on the advise of my grand father Akkineni Nageshwara Rao that I am doing this film. He saw my first film Kalidasu and appreciated but he said it didn’t have romantic angle and insisted on doing a love story. Being a youngster, I think it is better target young audiences first then reaching mass audiences. Current is pucca youth film film.
Who decides your films?
My mother and my producer Chintalapudi Srinivasa Rao and I sit and discuss each script that comes to us. Srinivasa Rao is a former journalist, he gives perspective from society aspect, my mother thinks what women audiences expect and I represent the youth. So if we like all three of us, we proceed with it.
