Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar passes away

Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar, popularly known as Powerstar of Kannada films, is no more. He died of a cardiac arrest on Friday. He was 46. Fondly called Appu by his fans, the superstar was taken to Vikram hospital in Bengaluru this morning after experiencing chest pain. He could not survive.

He was the son of veteran actor Rajkumar. Puneeth began his acting career as a child actor. He shot to fame as a lead hero with ‘Appu’. The film was directed by our Telugu filmmaker Puri Jagannadh.

Puneeth had delivered many blockbusters in his career that include Mourya, Arasu, Raam and Anjani Putra.

Puneeth Rajkumar is survived by his wife Ashwini Revanth and two children.

PM Narendra Modi tweeted: “A cruel twist of fate has snatched away from us a prolific and talented actor, Puneeth Rajkumar. This was no age to go. The coming generations will remember him fondly for his works and wonderful personality. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Several Tollywood celebrities expressed shock and grief at his death.
