Megastar Chiranjeevi: An icon and inspiration!

Born on 22 August, 1955, Chiranjeevi’s original name was Konidela Sivasankara Varaprasad. After making the decision to pursue a career in acting, he opted to alter his name to Chiranjeevi.

He is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished and impactful actors in the annals of Indian film. Throughout a career lasting more than forty years, he appeared as the lead actor in a total of 155 films. In addition to Telugu, he also performed in Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada. Chiranjeevi has been honored with several prestigious awards in the cinema industry, including the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award, three Nandi Awards, and nine Filmfare Awards.

And now, he is going to be conferred with Padma Vibhsuhan award.

Number one star

Before taking a plunge into films, he trained in an acting institute in Madras. Chiranjeevi commenced his acting career in 1978 with the film “Punadhirallu.” But “Pranam Khareedu” was premiered before to its release at the movie office. “Khaidi” was the film that catapulted him to stardom. Chiranjeevi achieved prominence with this flick and went on to consistently deliver other successful movies.

“Gharana Mogudu,” released in 1992, became the first Telugu film to surpass Rs 10 crore in box office collections. This achievement elevated Chiranjeevi to the status of the highest-paid actor in India at that time, propelling him to feature prominently on the front pages of national weekly publications in the country.

He maintained his position as the top figure in the Telugu film business for several decades. Until his entry into politics in 2008, he held number one position in the Telugu film industry.

Successful comeback

Chiranjeevi established the Praja Rajyam Party in 2008 and participated in the 2009 Andhra Pradesh election. Nevertheless, he chose to disengage from politics in 2014. He also founded Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust (CCT) in 1998.

In his comeback, he also delivered a series of highly successful films, including “Khaidi No 150” and “Waltair Veerayya”. He is presently engaged with a fantasy thriller called “Viswambhara”.

He received the IFFI Indian Film Personality of the Year Award at the 53rd IFFI in 2022.

Chiranjeevi was the most beloved actor in the Telugu states for people who grew up in the 80s and 90s. With his excellent dance skills and realistic action sequences, he revolutionized making of commercial films.

Currently, Chiranjeevi is widely regarded as the ‘father’ figure in the Telugu film industry and commands immense respect from everyone. He serves as a genuine source of inspiration for aspiring actors who dream to achieve great success in the film industry. Chiranjeevi achieved stardom via diligent effort and innate talent, despite without a background in movies and financial resources.
