Mani Ratnam and controversies are usually strangers. They don't go together. But not on this occasion.

Recently, there were reports that Vairamuthu would be penning every song in his upcoming movie 'Ponniyin Selvan'. The celebrated filmmaker has been criticized since then for this. Vairamuthu, the Tamil poet-lyricist, was outed by singer Chinmayi during the Me Too movement. He has been accused of making sexual overtures to her.
"How can Mani work with such a man? Never expected this from someone like him," a Twitter user commented. "Vairamuthu
has only got a promotion after he faced sexual harassment charges. If someone as big as Mani and music director AR Rahman have no issues with such a predator, how can women expect justice?" another said.

This film is a Rs 150 Cr period drama starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vijay Sethupati, Jayam Ravi, Mohan Babu, and Aditi Rao Hydari.
