Amazon bags Narappa for direct-OTT release?

Strange as it may sound, but many Telugu films are looking at OTT companies for direct-release after lockdown has been lifted. Until now, filmmakers had waited for theaters to reopen to release their films. When the theaters are readying to restart their business, the same filmmakers have initiated talks with OTT companies for a better deal for direct-release.

With the talks of the third wave of coronavirus and delta variants, filmmakers have little hope in the theatrical business. Producers who are unsure about the prospects of their movies in the theaters have initiated talks with OTT companies.

After Nithin’s ‘Maestro’, now ‘Narappa’ has closed the deal. Earlier, the makers said ‘Narappa’ was meant for the theatrical experience. The film is the remake of the Tamil hit ‘Asuran’. But Amazon and producer Suresh Babu have made a deal for direct-release on OTT.

Venkatesh ‘Drushyam 2’ was sold to Amazon Prime long back, as the original Malayalam version also had its premiere on the same OTT space.

So, both Venky movies are set to premiere on digital space skipping the theatrical window.

‘Narappa’ is directed by Srikanth Addala and produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu and Suresh Babu.
